TRIP #8

Friday morning, November 9th, 2018 at 8:30, Mary Lou and I left our home in Seaside, California and headed out to the top of Northern California along the Coastal side traveling on highway 101. We had plans to visit '11' counties, but, due to the big fire out of Paradise, California we decided to just visit '3' counties along Highway 101.

Our first stop was Ukiah, County Seat of Mendocino, 227 Miles.

THIS IS JUST A FRACTION OF THE GIANT LOGS WE CAME ACROSS NEAR UKIAH

From Ukiah we headed to Eureka, County Seat of Humboldt County, 158 miles. We went another 8 miles to Arcata, where we had reservations at Hampton Inn. We were too tired to go take any photos. Mary Lou had a craving for some kind of ice cream so we took a little ride, but, after not finding anything like that we came back to the little strip mall next to the Hampton Inn and took a walk through a very large and nice supermarket. We found a small container of strawberry ice cream for Mary Lou and a piece of fried chicken and a corn dog for me. On the way back to the hotel, as we were exiting the center's parking lot, right in front of us was a McDonald's. I was very upset that I didn't see it before we went to the supermarket.

I got up early and went, by myself, and went back to Eureka to take a couple of photos. When I got back Mary Lou and I finished packing up and then went downstairs to have our delicious complimentary breakfast. When done, we loaded up our van and headed to our next County Seat Crescent City of Del Norte County, 85 miles. Crescent City was really nice. As we worked our way to the County offices to take the photos, we somehow almost became part of a Veteran's Day Parade.

On our way to Crescent City, Mary Lou and I discussed the situation of the big fire that could be getting closer to Highway 5. We decided to cancel the rest of our planned trip and cancelled our reservation at the Hampton Inn in Redding. So, after Crescent City we headed back to Eureka, actually Arcata, where we were lucky to make another reservation at Hampton Inn.

After checking in we had some time, so I checked out some of our photos and noticed that the photos of Eureka were a little too dark so the plan was that we would retake the photos on our way out in the morning.

Across the way from the hotel was an Oriental Buffet restaurant. Yes, we could of gone to the McDonalds, but, after some good comments about the Oriental Buffet from the hotel clerk we thought we would try it out. While the outside didn't look that inviting, the inside was beautiful and the food was extremely delicious and the variety was amazing. Mary Lou enjoyed it too.

So, Sunday morning after having our, again, delicious complimentary breakfast we packed up, loaded the van and headed to Eureka to retake those photos.
